WIRED TRANSPORT: Overview

ATM/IP
ATM is a high-speed/high bandwidth, packet-like switching and multiplexing technology, and is capable of transferring voice, video, and data through private and public networks.
IP - Internet Protocol is a data-oriented protocol used for communicating data across a packet-switched internet.

Ethernet
Ethernet is the most popular technology today for local area networking. Gigabit Ethernet has evolved from the original 10 Mbps Ethernet and 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet standards.

SONET/SDH
Synchronous Optical Network and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy refer to a group of fiber-optic transmission rates that can transport digital signals with different capacities.
